July President's
Message
Summer is officially here and we're really into the
heart of the racing season. We only had one autoslalom last month on June 12th with finally some nice weather where the race tires could
work, but a smaller turnout of only 36 entries. Maybe more people are starting their vacations early?
For those that did show up, they managed to get 9 runs in a piece, while
enjoying a nice flowing course designed by Cam. Thanks to those who came out to just work and tow the
trailers. Also in June were a couple of
events over at Mission for the road race and Solosprint crowd, with VMSC members
Josh V and Larry S battling for FTD and our very own Club Competition Director,
Marke E, getting his first taste of the brake abuse that is Mission in the
Solosprint.
This month we have an autoslalom event on Saturday July 10th, with
reg and tech from 8-9am. More info and signup list can be found
on the forum here. Please don't be late
because it slows the whole event down and you will have to deal with the wrath
of your fellow competitors! As usual if anyone is able to help out with the
extra tasks that go into putting on the event such as registration, setup,
timing, trailer towing, etc, please contact the Club competition director
competition@victoriamotorsports.ca. Also this month is our first
Solosprint of the year on July 24th. If you are interested in some higher speed
solo action this is an excellent opportunity
. There are certain safety requirement changes from our usual autoslalom
events and you will also be required to qualify for and purchase a Solosprint
license for $55 (unless you hold a Race or Ice Race license). The Solosprint
rule book can be found on the CACC website here and the Solosprint license
application form here. To qualify for a
Novice license you need to have at least one full season of autoslalom under
your belt, or have taken our driver training course. If you're just reading this for the first time and you
haven't applied for your license yet, then you might be too late. However, if
you ask the Solosprint license admin real nice and pay the $20 late fee you
might still have a chance
:)
I've got to thank of you
who did the paperwork and got their CACC autoslalom license. VMSC currently has the most autoslalom license
holders of any club in the province! For those of you who don't have it yet and are going to run more than
one event this year you still need to get it done. There are allowances in place for first timers
and non-club members who only run one event per year, but everyone else
needs to fill out the paperwork. The cost
of the license ($10) is covered by your club membership, so all you need to do
is fill out the form found here and provide a photocopy of your club membership card (if you have it) and drivers license. Either
mail them to the club or even easier is to
bring them out to the event and we will forward it to CACC with the
money.
Last but not least, this is your club
so come out and have your say at the monthly general meeting, which takes place at 7pm the first Wednesday of every
month at the Braefoot Activity Center (1359 McKenzie Ave.).
See you at the track!
