Wanted: 18"x8" wheels
Jun 15th, 2010, 8:33am

I think everyone, including me, is tired of listening to my poor stock tires cry all the way around a course so I have finally broken down and ordered some new tires.  I will just mount them on my stock wheels for the rest of the season if I cannot find used wheels at a fairly low cost (OK cheap).  They do not need to be lookers just capable of a bit of torture doing all the braking, acceleration and steering on a big, heavy front end.

Stock wheels are 18x8, 5x114.3 with a +45 offset and weigh 24.5lb. The car can handle 18 widths up to 9" and offsets of +45 to +35.

Thanks,

Karl

I got some Hankook Ventus R-S3s through Tirerack.com. They don't carry Falkens any longer so these seemed like a pretty good alternative.  I guess I won't be able to use poor tires as an excuse anymore.   Wink

oh my.... you went with the barely legal street tires  Shocked

You better have the 5-point harness if you want to stay in the driver's seat  at all time !  Wink

Yes, I can feel the difference in the car handling just scrubbing them in on the street.  They should have about 800 kms on them by next weekend so just right for the first try with them.  You're right about the seat belt, I think I'll have to put some Velcro on my tushy just to stay in the seat.

easy on the "scrubbing in".... 800km is probably from TR's suggested 500miles?  With tread rating of 140 I think they are ready NOW ! Cool

Hope I can make it next weekend to watch the big Eclipse fly !

Yes TR, and many others, suggests a break in to remove mold release silicone and other contaminates.  We'll see!  I've got a new set of wheels for my street tires so after the event next weekend the Hankooks will be coming off as daily drivers.  Not sure the Eclipse will ever fly (boats are hard to get off the ground) but I hope it won't be crying around the corners quite as much.
