Victoria Motor Sports Competition Regulations

Description of Events

Driver Training
A novice training program for drivers of all skill levels wanting to improve their car control skills for everyday driving and/or competition. Two nights of classroom instruction followed by a full-day of supervised practice and in-car instruction. Upon completing the program, drivers are eligible to apply for a novice racing license with CACC and/or ICSCC.

Autoslalom
Also known as autocross or Solo II. Drivers take turns navigating a course marked by pylons as quickly as possible without displacing any pylons. A fun and legal way for drivers to test their car control skills.  The Autoslalom rulebook can be downloaded from the CACC website here.

Solosprint
Solosprint events are a step closer to road racing. Events usually take place on road  racing circuits where each competitor takes turns challenging the track and the clock  to turn the fastest time against other cars in their class. Solosprint is another  opportunity to develop your car control skills, but at speeds approaching those of road racing. A Solosprint competitor must first compete as an Autoslalom competitor or have equivalent on-track experience before qualifying for a Novice Solosprint  Licence. After a season of competition under the scrutiny of CACC officials, a Novice  can apply for a Senior Solosprint Licence. Solosprint requires additional safety equipment beyond that mandated for Autoslalom.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can drive in the events?
Anyone with a valid Class 5 BC driver's license (or equivalent) may drive in our events. Drivers holding a novice (Class 7) license are allowed to run but will have their driving more closely monitored.  Events are open to both members and non-members, and first-timers are always welcome.

What do I need to run an event?
The essentials are:

  • Car
  • Helmet (minimum Snell M2000 or SA2000 standard)
  • Entry fee: $35 for club members (bring your club card) and $40 for non-members

There are additional items you could bring to make the day more comfortable. The Solo 2 Novice Handbook from SCCA has a few suggestions on what to bring.

What kind of car do I need to run?
Any car which meets the CACC Autoslalom requirements can be driven at our events. In brief, the rulebook allows any roadworthy or raceworthy vehicle with 4 wheels to run. Unfortunately, the rulebook currently excludes go-karts. All vehicles must pass technical inspection at the event.

Can I rent a car at an event?
The club has a 1994 Honda Civic available for rent for all events.  To rent the club car please e-mail the Club Competition director at least two weeks prior to the event to arrange for it to be at the event.  More detail on the club car can be found here.

Can I borrow a helmet?
The club currently does not have any loaner helmets, but fellow drivers at the event are usually quite willing to lend out theirs. We encourage drivers to bring their own equipment whenever possible. Snell M2000
(motorcycle) or newer helmets meet our safety requirements and are fairly inexpensive to purchase.

How do I get started?
Just show up at one of our events and we will be happy to help you get started.
